Almost a thousand protesters at The Copenhagen Climate Change Summit were arrested yesterday for unruly conduct. Although most of the protests were peaceful, one group began destroying windows of nearby buildings. Tens of thousands of protesters held multiple rallies throughout the Danish capital. Marches have also formed in Australia, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Indonesia and the Philippines. One of the demonstrators, Nnimmo Bassey, of Friends of the Earth, summed the rallies with “Let’s dance, sing and be happy, because power is in your hands,”.

“Let’s dance, sing and be happy, because power is in your hands,”

Protesters included actress Helen Baxendale, model Helena Christensen and former Irish president Mary Robinson. Baxendale was quoted “I think it’s also important that people come and make their voices heard as well. I think, in the end, that’s what will make real, positive change.”

The Copenhagen Summit opened last Monday, and has representatives from nearly 190 nations to discuss caps on greenhouse gas emissions. A draft proposal calls for cuts in greenhouse gas emissions by 50–90% by 2050 and 25–40% by 2020 for developed nations.

Local officials in the town of Dera Ghazi Khan in Pakistan said on Tuesday that at least twenty people were killed after a suicide car bomber attacked the house of a provincial governor. The Al Jazeera news agency reports that seventy people were injured from the blast.

According to Siddiq-ul-Farooq, a spokesman for the Pakistan Muslim League, the bomber drove his car into the wall of Dost Muhammad Khosa’s home, damaging it. Khosa and his relatives, however, were not at home, Farooq added. The house was reportedly close to a market, which also suffered from the explosion.

A reporter for Al Jazeera, however, noted that it wasn’t immediately clear if Khosa was intended as a target in Tuesday’s attack.

“There are many people trapped in the rubble after the powerful blast demolished some 10 shops […] The rescue work is under way and we fear the toll may go up. It was a terrorist activity, similar to those being carried out in other parts of the country,” said town commisioner Hasan Iqbal.

A local resident, Raza Khan, was witness to the chaos that resulted after the detonation. “The whole market has collapsed. There is smoke and people running here and there,” he said to the Associated Press. A local health official told Agence France-Presse news agency that “the hospital in the town has been crowded by people looking for their relatives. Rescue efforts are still going on.”

What do you do if you have an unhappy marriage?

It is common for couples these days to resolve their unhappiness by seeking a divorce. However, things do not have to end up that way. Here are 4 tips to help you end the unhappiness in a marriage without going through the divorce procedures.

1. Resolve problems together

First of all, you have to remember that there are no perfect marriages. Every couple faces problems and arguments but the key issue is how these are resolved. When you are faced with financial, health or even emotional problems, do not dwell on the issues or find faults with each other. That is not going to solve your problems. Instead, take these difficulties as challenges and solve them together. Staying positive will help to make you grow stronger both as an individual and as a couple and thus help to bond your marriage closer.

2. Rekindle the passion

A lot of married couples tend to forget why and how they fell in love with each other in the first place. These days, most couples are very busy with their careers and family so they forgot to appreciate each other’s company. Over time, they feel that they have landed themselves in an unhappy marriage and start to consider a divorce. Sadly, they feel that a breakup is the only way to end their unhappiness. There is really no need for things to get to that extent, unless you are in an abusive relationship.

You should rekindle that passion that had caused both of you to fall madly in love during the good old days. You can look through the old photographs together or even revisit the places where you used to frequent during your courtship days. Make it a point to spend time alone together each day or at least once a week. You can show your love for each other by buying or making little gifts to give to each other. You can also plan for getaway trips occasionally or have a quiet dinner at a restaurant, away from the kids. This will help to fire up that old flame you have for each other again.

3. Maintain an open communication

Maintaining an open communication is important in order to let your spouse know what you are thinking and feeling. Your wants and needs can then be made known to each other, otherwise, the danger of drifting apart is high.

4. Seek professional help

This is my last point because many couples prefer to use this only as a last resort. Usually it is because they feel awkward with a third party intruding in their private lives. Many might not be prepared to be honest with each other and with themselves, especially not in front of an outsider.

However, this marriage counselor will be a great help to you if you have tried many other methods but nothing seems to work. Being a professional, the counselor will be able to lead both of you to find out what had really gone wrong in your marriage and how you can remediate the issues without having to file for a divorce.

In fact, if things cannot be resolved on your own and you feel shy about seeing your local marriage counselor, you might want to consider consulting an online marriage counselor instead. This expert will be able to help you resolve your differences but you do not have to meet the counselor to get help. Alternatively, you can also get additional help from sources such as ebooks which would give you help on how to save your marriage or how to get your ex spouse back.

The above are just 4 tips which you could use to help you end an unhappy marriage. Regardless of which method you try, you will be able to see some results. Staying positive in your thinking and being able to understand, forgive and have patience is vital to your success at saving your marriage.

Round 6 of the Hyundai A-League produced an interesting first for the competition in its short existence, and something which has been totally against the grain so far this season. In the 20 games so far this season, only three home wins had been recorded, but for the first time ever in the league, all four home teams won their respective matches in a single round.

The Mariners stay four points clear at the top despite losing its first game of the season against Adelaide, while Wellington had their first taste of victory at home, with the Phoenix smashing Perth 4-1. Melbourne and Sydney are set for a blockbuster in Sydney next week, after both had hard fought wins.

Digital Shipping Scales, Floor Scale Provide Accurate, Reliable Weight Readings

by

Darvin788

What does this mean for a company s production and product shipping? Why buying a cheap digital floor scale may make more of a difference than buying a cheap analogue floor scale? And, overall, what going digital means for scale readings for medical scales and shipping scales.

Cheap Digital Floor Scale May Misread Weight

Any floor scale is designed to weigh a load. But, a digital floor scale may provide more room for error if an employee is weighing a product in which the weight is concentrated entirely in a small area. This may cause a cheap digital scale to register an error.

Since these scales are designed to bear load weights, a cheaper scale over time may tend to disappoint. Getting a floor scale wet, moving it or letting it come into contact with a front-loader while moving can damage an inexpensive floor scale and cause it to stop working. But a premium scale should continue to operate normally.

Are Digital Medical Scales Very Accurate?

Digital medical scales may be more accurate in reading a patient s weight in a hospital or doctor s office setting, but are they better than older non-digital models still in use?

These digital medical scales are making it easier for nurses to care for critically ill patients because they do not have to physically lift patients out of beds. But, some of the electrical components in digital medical scales, such as the weight sensor may wear out faster than its older model. And, while older models may be more susceptible to water damage from mopping, its digital models take this in stride.

Even Digital Shipping Scales Will Misread If Treated Roughly

Though any digital scale and certainly digital shipping scales have become more accurate and produced better readings for small business owners and large companies shipping their products to clients worldwide, any digital shipping scales are still scales.

Rough handling of any digital shipping scales can cause the cell within the scale to misread a product weight. Many products in the U.S. are sold by weight and not volume. This is why digital shipping scales must be accurate to less than 0.2 of a gram. Customers depend on getting a product at a fair price and trust businesses digital business scales to be accurate. This is why it is so important to purchase your scales from a reputable company providing quality products to their customers.

Elite Scale has been in the scale business for more than thirty years. While the world has changed dramatically during that time, our business has continued to thrive and be successful because our philosophy has always remained the same: Provide great quality products and service — at great low prices! Ian Narev, the CEO of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, this morning “unreservedly” apologised to clients who lost money in a scandal involving the bank’s financial planning services arm.

Last week, a Senate enquiry found financial advisers from the Commonwealth Bank had made high-risk investments of clients’ money without the clients’ permission, resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars lost. The Senate enquiry called for a Royal Commission into the bank, and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

Mr Narev stated the bank’s performance in providing financial advice was “unacceptable”, and the bank was launching a scheme to compensate clients who lost money due to the planners’ actions.

In a statement Mr Narev said, “Poor advice provided by some of our advisers between 2003 and 2012 caused financial loss and distress and I am truly sorry for that. […] There have been changes in management, structure and culture. We have also invested in new systems, implemented new processes, enhanced adviser supervision and improved training.”

An investigation by Fairfax Media instigated the Senate inquiry into the Commonwealth Bank’s financial planning division and ASIC.

Whistleblower Jeff Morris, who reported the misconduct of the bank to ASIC six years ago, said in an article for The Sydney Morning Herald that neither the bank nor ASIC should be in control of the compensation program.

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic condition causing benign tumors (neurofibromas) to grow along certain types of nerves and, in addition, it can affect the development of bones or skin. There are several variants of the disease but type 1 and type 2 NF account for the vast majority of cases.

The disease manifestations can vary from very mild to severe. Major symptoms include growths on and under the skin; skin pigmentations called café au lait spots in type 1; acoustic nerve tumors and consequent hearing loss in type 2. Growths can affect nearly all parts of the body, and pressure on nearby structures can cause a wide variety of complications. There is a small risk that the tumors transform into malignant cancerous lesions.

NF is one of the most common single-gene human diseases; around 1 in 2,500-4,000 live births are affected by NF-1, whereas NF-2 occurs in about 1 in 50,000-120,000. Both type 1 and 2 are autosomal dominant conditions, meaning that only one copy of the mutated gene need be inherited to pass the disorder. A child of a parent with neurofibromatosis and an unaffected parent will have a 50% chance of inheriting the disorder. The gene responsible for NF-1 and possibly NF-2 is thought to function as a tumor suppressor gene.

In most cases of neurofibromatosis 1, patients can live normal and productive lives. In about 25-40% of patients there is an associated learning disability with or without ADHD. In some cases of neurofibromatosis 2, the damage to nearby vital structures, such as the cranial nerves and the brainstem, can be life-threatening. When tumors are causing pain or disfiguration, surgery is thus far the only proven beneficial treatment option.

Reggie Bibbs is a 43-year-old-man living in Houston, Texas. Mr Bibbs was born with a genetic disease called neurofibromatosis (NF), which causes him to develop tumors on his body (see infobox on the right). NF can be a subtle disease, but in Bibbs’ case it has left him with a disfigured face and deformed leg. But he is happy with the way he looks, and doesn’t want to change his appearance to please other people. He has launched a successful campaign entitled “Just Ask”, and that’s just what Wikinews did in a video-interview.

The interview was prepared by Wikinews reporter Michaël Laurent with the help of Bertalan Meskó (who has a popular genetics and web 2.0 blog). Their questions were sent to a close friend of Mr. Bibbs, Lou Congelio, who kindly conducted the interview.

An acrobatic group known by the name of Spelbound has been declared as the winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2010, a televised variety talent show competition broadcast on ITV in the United Kingdom. As the winning act of the show, Spelbound have won £100,000 (US$144,580, €120,313, A$175,079) and a place at The Royal Variety Performance, an annual gala evening that is attended by senior members of the British Royal Family.

In no particular order, the top three acts were revealed to be two dancers known by their stage name of Twist and Pulse, gymnastic group Spelbound and Kieran Gaffney, whose act involves playing on the drum kit. After Kieran Gaffney was revealed to be in third place, Anthony McPartlin, who hosts Britain’s Got Talent with Declan Donnelly, said to Kieran: “Well done Kieran. Kieran, you’re a star, you came back, you got all the way to the final. I know you’ve loved this. You’ve loved this, haven’t you?” In response to this, Kieran Gaffney stated: “Thank you very much. Thank you, everyone for supporting me. Thank you.”

Shortly afterwards, on the episode that was broadcast live on ITV1 on Saturday, Anthony announced: “After tens of thousands of auditons, five semi-finals and an amazing final, this…this is it. One of you is about to walk away with £100,000 and a place at this year’s Royal Variety Performance. The winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2010 is…Spelbound!” Glen Murphy from Twist and Pulse commented about finishing in second place, stating: “Yeah, it’s amazing. I can’t even believe it. I can’t believe it at all.”

Alex Uttley, a 24-year-old member of Spelbound, commented on the gymnastic group’s victory, commenting: “Oh, my god. This is unbelieveable. We just want to say thank you to everyone out there. It just shows that all our hard work has paid off.” One of the coaches of Spelbound, named Neil Griffiths, stated about Spelbound: “Oh, they’ve worked so hard over the last few weeks. Um, since the semi-final, we…we really had to pull out the stops to try and up the game. They’ve not known they’ve worked in the gym from six in the morning till twelve…twelve o’clock of the night. I couldn’t have asked for more. Um, it’s a team of coaches. I don’t take all the credit myself. There’s, uh, two people up there that know who they are who’ve been fantastic.”

Spelbound consists of 24-year-old Alex Uttley, Nicholas Illingworth, aged 24, Adam Buckingham, aged 21, 20-year-old Adam McAssey, 19-year-old Douglas Fordyce, 18-year-old Edward Upcott, 18-year-old Leighanne Cowler, 17-year-old Katie Axten, 17-year-old Lauren Kemp, 15-year-old Jonathan Stranks, Abigail Ralph, aged 15, 13-year-old Hollianne Wood and Amy Mackenzie, aged 12. Bookmakers had previously predicted that Spelbound would be the most likely act to become the winner of the series.

The running order for the final started with Twist and Pulse. The second act to perform was Liam McNally, a 14-year-old singer. The running order subsequently continued with 40-year-old impressionist Paul Burling, singer Christopher Stone, aged 28, Tina & Chandi, a woman and dog dancing act, Connected, a five-piece singing group, Kieran Gaffney, aged 12, 22-year-old Tobias Mead, a dancer, 80-year-old singer Janey Cutler and Spelbound in that particular order.

Earlier on in the final, Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden has stated to Spelbound: “We are hosting the 2012 Olympics and I think ‘what a brilliant opening act’.” Fellow judge Piers Morgan also commented that “[t]he purpose of this show is to identify hidden great British talent. You are that act.” After Spelbound won in the final, another judge, named Simon Cowell, stated that “the right boys and girls won on the night” and that he could “only say on live TV that that was one of the most astonishing things I have ever seen. Seriously.”
