Natural Balance Pet Foods has recalled some of its wet and dry food for cats and dogs after several owners said that their pets were becoming sick. The company urges owners to stop feeding their pets the food immediately.

The brands recalled include Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Food.

Last month, Menu Foods recalled all of its 60 million products of dry and wet dog and cat food after pets began to fall ill and in some cases died of kidney failure.

“Natural Balance, Pacoima, CA, is issuing a voluntary nationwide recall for all of its Venison dog products and the dry Venison cat food only, regardless of date codes. The recalled products include Venison and Brown Rice canned and bagged dog foods, Venison and Brown Rice dog treats, and Venison and Green Pea dry cat food. Recent laboratory results show that the products contain melamine. We believe the source of the melamine is a rice protein concentrate. Natural Balance has confirmed this morning that some production batches of these products may contain melamine,” said a press released issued by Natural Balance.

The FDA states that the “investigation remains open and active, and the agency continues to follow leads to get closer to the root cause of the problem and to ensure that all contaminated product is removed from the market.”

“The source of the melamine appears to be a rice protein concentrate, which was recently added to the dry venison formulas. Natural Balance does not use wheat gluten, which was associated with the previous melamine contamination,” said the press release.

Bags, cans and zip lock bags of the food are expected to be the most affected.

“The products are packaged in bags, cans and zip lock treat bags and sold in pet specialty stores and PetCo nationally. No other Natural Balance products are involved in this voluntary recall as none of our other formulas include the rice protein concentrate,” added the press release.

The company states that the food, Venison & Brown Rice Dry Dog Food and Venison & Green Pea Dry Cat Food, are the only brands affected by the recall.

Peter Andren, Australian MP dies aged 61

Australian federal member of Calare, Peter Andren died on Saturday after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was aged 61.

Mr Andren who had held the seat since being elected in 1996 had previously announced his intention to run for the senate after his electorate was changed for the 2007 federal election. After Mr Andren was diagnosed with cancer in July, he announced that he would be retiring from politics at the election.

Mr Andren’s 1996 campaign platform was based upon retaining services in regional Australia, particularly banking, health and telecommunications. Over the next 11 years, Mr Andren’s primary vote grew and at the 2001 and 2004 elections was elected without preferences, achieving a majority primary vote.

In 2001, Mr Andren disagreed with his electorate on refugees. The electorate supported the government’s tough stance but Mr Andren could not support the government’s border protection measures. Following this, a vicious letter-box campaign rose up saying “you might like Peter Andren … but you won’t like what he’s got to say about keeping our borders safe”.

Fellow NSW independent member, Tony Windsor said Mr Andren’s stance on asylum seekers was just one sign of his compassion and strong belief in human rights.

Mr Windsor described Mr Andren as the “conscience” of parliament. “Peter Andren was a true representative of the people of the Calare electorate, a man of the highest integrity and the conscience of the Parliament,” he said.

“He was subjected to vitriol from time to time within the Parliament over issues, but if he believed in something he stuck to it. He didn’t compromise and I think that’s a lasting legacy that Peter will leave.”

Prime Minister John Howard said despite having a difference of opinion with Mr Andren on many issues, he had a lot of respect for him.

“I respected his skills as a local member,” he said.

“Mr Andren and I frequently disagreed on major issues and he made no bones about that and I made no bones about it either but that didn’t stop me respecting him and acknowledging the tremendous work he did for his electorate.”

Labor leader Kevin Rudd described Mr Andren as a true independent.

“Peter Andren will be a great loss to the Australian parliament,” he said.

“He was a man of principle, a man of commitment, a man who was an absolute independent.”

Leader of the Greens, Bob Brown said Mr Andren was an example of how a politician should be.

“He was an exemplar of representative politics for his electorate and the people of Calare kept returning him with a bigger and bigger majority,” he said.

“[If] anybody ever asks me how a politician should be, I am going to say, ‘Look at the record of Peter Andren'”

“He was a great Australian representative and he is a great loss to this country.”

During his political career, Mr Andren fought the sale of Telstra, introduced a bill to allow MPs to opt-out of their generous superannuation schemes, opposed the Iraq war and campaigned on environmental issues.

Mr Andren was born at Gulargambone, near Dubbo in Western NSW in 1946. Before he entered politics Mr Andren worked as a teacher before moving into journalism. Mr Andren worked as a news producer in Sydney for the Seven and Nine networks, before moving back to regional NSW where he worked as the news editor for both Radio 2GZ and Prime Television.

Mr Andren is survived by his partner and two sons.

If you want to know the best used cars from Japan for sale in Kenya, you ve come to the right place. An interesting aspect in the automotive industry is that different countries have different favorites when it comes to buying cars. The state of development, terrain, and industry needs dictate what vehicles are best suitable for use in a certain area. Knowing about the state of the industry would give you an idea of the current trends in the automotive market, and it would guide buyers purchases.

The Kenyan automotive market is bustling with activity, especially when it comes to the acquisition of secondhand cars and trucks. This is because the higher cost of credit has decreased sales of new cars. More and more are looking at pre-owned vehicles to be imported into the country. Commercial vehicles are also in demand due to the growing agriculture and construction sectors. Primary workhorses are pick-up trucks, getting 35% of total sales. Heavy commercial vehicles follow the demand, getting 27% of market shares. Sales of pre-owned cars are five times higher than sales of new units.

Those buying new prefer Isuzu-branded models, followed by Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Tata. In particular, the Isuzu Double Cab is considered the best-selling vehicle followed by its Single Cab version and its Station Wagon version. Safari-wise, the favored vehicle for braving the wild is the Land Rover Defender. For tours and commuter use, the Isuzu Large Bus is the vehicle of choice.

A rise in flesh-eating staph infections has worried doctors about the possible spread of drug resistant bacteria.

Staphylococcus aureus, commonly known as staph, is a bacteria that commonly causes skin infections in otherwise healthy people. However, as a persistent threat in hospitals, it tends to infect patients who are already sick and whose systems are vulnerable due to IV lines that pierce the skin. Doctors have already battled for years against drug-resistant strains of the bacteria, but the struggle has generally been confined to hospitals.

Now, however, Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus (MRSA) has been spreading in communities outside hospitals. Cases have multiplied by 25 times since 1998 at the University of Chicago. A Los Angeles hospital documented 14 cases of the flesh-eating infection, where patients required substantial time in intensive care and surgery. The infections are particularly problematic because nearly a quarter of people who get a staph infection require hospitalization.

Staph infections are spread much like other diseases, with crowded conditions, poor hygiene, and skin-to-skin contact most frequently to blame. At higher risk are prison inmates, homeless people, military personnel, and families with kids in day care. Athletes also have a higher risk, because sweating makes it easier for bacteria to infect the skin.

They are cheap, useful, and very plentiful, and that is exactly the problem, according to researchers. A report issued on Feb. 23 by a cadre of environment and economics researchers suggested that Kenya should ban the common plastic bag that one gets at the checkout counter of grocery stores, and place a levy on other plastic bags, all to combat the country’s environmental problems stemming from the bags’ popularity.

Investigation into Mumbai train bombings begins

The toll in yesterday’s serial bombings on Mumbai‘s commuter trains has risen to 200 killed, with 714 people injured, according to the official estimate released by the Police. 127 victims have been identified and a further 56 remain unidentified, the estimate said. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks. Indian authorities have said that the Kashmiri militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) may be involved. An LeT spokesman has denied any involvement.

The day after the blast, schools, colleges and offices functioned normally in Mumbai and the commuter train service targeted in the bombings was operational. Many commuters rode the trains to work, though their numbers were smaller than usual. The Bombay Stock Exchange, located in the city shrugged off the bombings, with the BSE SENSEX gaining 3 percent on opening, calming fears that economic confidence will be undermined by the blasts.

After your student pass is approved, and you confirmed your studies abroad, congratulations! Now it is time to find accommodation. This will be your place to rest and relax away from home. So any extra effort that you put in finding your perfect place now will pay off later.

It is hard to think about how bad housing conditions can get. Especially when you have not been to the country you want to study in yet. But keep in mind that you will be staying for a long time. So factor in the creature comforts you need and sort out a compromise with your budget.

The best way to go about it is: Research, research, research!

Step 1: Go online

Check forums, blogs, classified ads, and real estate websites. It is highly recommended to hire a reputable housing agent. Agent fees are usually a one-time payment of a month s rental. But before you contact an agent, you should check for prices online. It will give you a good idea of the prices you should be paying. So you will know how to avoid being cheated.

Real estate and accommodation rental sites will have plenty of advertisements for you to look through. Be prepared to call and contact a lot of people. Keep your options open, but have a clear idea of what you need and stick to them. It can be tempting to splurge on fancy housing. So, make sure rental does not compromise on your budget for other necessities like utility or grocery bills.

Step 2: Check for suitability of area

Being adventurous pays off. Because renting a place that is slightly further away from school say, a 45-minute distance, could be a lot cheaper. A good location will allow you to do grocery shopping conveniently. And you will also have easy access to public transport.

Also check for the reputation of the location. Cheap rental could also mean that the area has a high crime rate. To find out, do a simple check on your search engine by typing in the street or area name. Or you can also check with locals about the place you want to live in.

Step 3: Visit the place if possible

Even if it costs you a lot to fly over to check out the place, it will be money well-spent. It also allows you to see through deals that are too good to be true. Never trust photographs alone. It is impossible to see from photos whether the place is noisy, smells funny, has bed bugs, or missing windows.

Alternatively, you can consider lodging temporarily at a hostel or a cheap apartment until you find a place that is suitable for you. This option works best for time constraints. Another plus point is that you can meet your housing agent in person if you plan to hire one.

Step 4: Check the facilities

Check everything in the house to make sure that they are in working order. Fixing them will waste unnecessary time and money. Not to mention, is also an uncomfortable process. Juggling school work and a new social life will be challenging enough. You will not need additional problems.

Here is a checklist of what you should look out for:

– Pipes in working order, no leaks.

– Taps fully functional, water runs clear. If the water is brownish, it means that the tap has not been used for years and rust formed.

– Ceilings, walls and floors have no cracks.

– Bathroom in satisfactory condition.

Once you are satisfied with all factors, sign the lease agreement!

Do note that if you are under the country s legal age to sign documents, you will need a parent or guardian to sign it for you.

U.S. superbug expected to emerge in Canada

An infectious superbug spreading in the United States is to “emerge in force” in Canada, doctors fear. The bacteria have been reported popping up in day care centers and locker rooms across the U.S. Usually elderly or very ill hospital patients get the disease.

More than 2 million U.S. residents are infected every year, the Centers for Disease Control estimates.

An article in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) on Tuesday said that Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are “spreading with alarming rapidity.” The bacteria can cause boils, pimples, or in extreme cases, flesh-eating disease, and more.

“The resistant bacteria is an old foe with new fangs: a pathogen combining virulence, resistance and an ability to disseminate at large,” wrote Dr. John Conly, medical professor and an infectious disease specialist at the University of Calgary.

British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario are the provinces which already have had MRSA in hospitals.

A 30-year-old Calgary, Alberta man died last year of lung abscesses associated with the infection, as well as a three-month old toddler in Toronto, Ontario.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Alex Rios, last summer, suffered from an infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus in his leg. Pitcher Ty Taubenheim had a similar infection on his foot.

Doctors are currently investigating some Calgary residents, who could be one of the first Canadian reports of MRSA outside of a hospital setting.

At some point we all have to do a little banking, but before you can do that, you must open an account. There are a lot of banks and credit unions in the Schiller Park area, and most of them have the same process for opening an account. Here are some of the steps:

Bring Valid Identification

It doesn’t matter where you go, you are going to have to show some type of identification before you can open a bank account. Generally, this must be a state identification, such as a driver’s license or ID card, or a government identification, such as a passport. You will also need your Social Security number and a piece of mail that is postmarked, which shows your current address.

Bring a Deposit

The other thing that you need to open a bank account is a deposit. Most banks and credit unions require at least $25, but some of them might make an exception. The money that you bring will immediately be put into the account. You will, however, get temporary checks, which will allow you to take money out. You also might have access to an ATM card or debit card. Within a week or two, you should get permanent checks and a permanent card, which you can use to access your money.

Caveats to These Requirements

In some cases, you don’t need these requirements. For instance, if you are opening an account for a child, you won’t need a photo ID. However, you will need a copy of the child’s birth certificate and Social Security card in most cases. If you are opening a business account, you will need things like the company’s tax ID number.
