Pakistan police stormed the offices of television news broadcaster Geo news in the capital city using tear gas and firing rubber bullets in the building.

Police personnel charged into the facility batons drawn and thrashed offices and attacked the staff of GEO News and its sister affiliates the The News International and Jang newspaper, forcing the channel to go off air for more than six hours on Thursday.

The news channel’s attempts to go on air from the port city of Karachi, some 2700 kilometers away, were thwarted by the pro-Musharraf government of Sindh.

Bomb disposal squad backed by federal paramilitary force stormed the Karachi office forcing an immediate evacuation of the premises. The bomb disposal squad took two and half hours to conduct an office to office sweep of the five story building, resulting in damage to computer and camera equipment.

Geo News continuously airing a prerecorded loop of prayers asking God to bless the nation and guide the leaders by granting them mental abilities to make proper decisions in critical times. The loop also continuously showed the footage of the nation’s founder, Qaid-e-Azam Muhammed Ali Jinnah, addressing the first constituent assembly of Pakistan and promising freedom of speech and press, along with clips from riots and military bombing of the former East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).

President Pervez Musharraf came on live phone call within minutes of resumption of transmissions and said, “I apologize for what has happened, I see this as a conspiracy to uproot my government.”

General Musharraf came to power after a blood-less coup in 1999 by overthrowing the democratically elected government of Nawaz Sharif, charging the government with corruption.

Landscaping is an art form that balances beauty and function. Often, a clean slate is needed before the landscaping design can be implemented. This is where a backhoe can streamline the process of getting a clean slate. These are some of the tasks that can be more easily accomplished with the help of this piece of machinery.

One task where a Backhoe Rental in Harrisburg PA comes in handy is the removal of old concrete or asphalt patios. While breaking up these pieces can be accomplished with a jackhammer, these materials are extremely heavy to remove even when broken up. It can take a lot of manpower and time to get the patio removed. This type of project requires less manpower and less time to accomplish. This means you can get to the building phase much sooner.

Another task in which a backhoe is extremely helpful is the movement of materials from one place to another. Often, deliveries of dirt, rocks and other supplies are dropped off in the front yard because of limitations of the trucks. Moving these materials to the proper position can take a lot of time and sweat. Whereas, a backhoe can move a vast amount of materials in a shorter amount of time. This can help you save the muscle power for the more intensive and detailed tasks such as laying down the patio.

A Backhoe Rental in Harrisburg PA is also handy for helping to regrade the yard for improved drainage. Because the grade of a yard is so important in protecting the foundation, this can require the movement of a lot of dirt. In yards where grading is a major issue, the backhoe can make it easier to put the dirt where it is needed the most. It is also handy in filling areas where erosion has had made parts of the yard unusable.

These are some of the landscaping tasks that a backhoe from the Slaymaker Group can help with when creating that clean slate. While the end result of a landscaping job is the beauty and function of the yard, getting there can require a large amount of work.

According to Norwegian and British newspaper sources, Jon Sudbø, a cancer researcher at the Norwegian Radium Hospital, fabricated at least 900 patient records in his research on NSAID drugs published in October of 2005 (PMID 16226613). According to the now-discredited research, the class of drugs, commonly used for pain management, was found to decrease the risk of oral cancer but increase the risk of heart disease.

This field of research is important for the future use of Cox-2 drugs and was received with great interest by the United States Food and Drug Administration and other organizations involved in drug safety and efficacy.

Several other scientists put their name to the article in the Lancet but claim they were misled by Sudbø. The Lancet is publishing a retraction in its upcoming edition. Probes are underway both to investigate how this article passed peer review, and whether previous research by Sudbø was fraudulent.

Jawbone found in Aruba is not Natalee Holloway’s

A jawbone found in Aruba is not that of missing American Natalee Holloway, who was a recent high school-graduate at the time of her disappearance. Officials confirmed the news after Dutch scientists completed tests on the bone. The jawbone, which also had a wisdom tooth with it, was found by an American tourist close to the Phoenix Hotel. A second bone had also been found by another tourist earlier this month.

The bone was sent to the Netherlands Forensic Institute where scientists completed tests. They compared the bone to dental records given to them by Natalee’s father, from which they confirmed the the bone was not that of Natalee, although it was human. It was said to be unlikely that the bone was Holloway’s as there is no physical evidence that she was murdered.

Beth accepts the forensic conclusions, is emotionally exhausted from the inexplicably long wait, and deeply disappointed in the time and manner in which she learned of the results.

Taco Stein, the Aruban Solicitor General, released a statement after the announcement was made. He commented on the speed of the identification; he said that they had quickly ruled out Holloway because her records had shown that she had her wisdom teeth previously removed.

Tim Miller, the Director of the Texas EquuSearch, released a statement after talking to Natalee’s father. He said “Dave [Natalee’s father] has been in contact with Aruban authorities and spoke with FBI this morning, the agent working the case. Dave believes it is Natalee.”

An attorney for Natalee’s mother, Beth Twitty, released a statement saying “Beth accepts the forensic conclusions, is emotionally exhausted from the inexplicably long wait, and deeply disappointed in the time and manner in which she learned of the results.” He commented on the Aruban authorities saying that “Apparently Aruban prosecutors were more sensitive to media concerns than the painful vigil of a mother.”

Natalee Holloway disappeared on the island in 2005 while on a school trip. She was last seen leaving a nightclub with three men, one of which was later identified as Joran van der Sloot. Van der Sloot was detained twice by police but has never been charged with Holloway’s disappearance. He is currently in Peru facing a different murder charge. Aruban authorities have said that they are checking neighboring islands to find a match for other missing persons.

I am diagnosed of slipped disc. Should I go for physiotherapy treatment or surgery in Singapore first?

This is a common back pain problem faced by patient in doubt of their back condition.

What is a spinal disc?

There are many different back problems to a spinal disc: Slipped disc, prolapsed disc, herniated disc, degenerated disc ‘wear and tear’ and disc extrusion. As we all know our vertebral column is made up of bones called vertebrae. Between these vertebrae are discs which help in shock absorption, allows mobility and also provides stability to the vertebral column.

What is slipped disc?

Under normal circumstances the disc stays within its space between the vertebral bodies and does not put pressure on either the nerve root or the spinal cord which runs in the vertebral canal. However when the pressure within the center of this disc increases it can move out of its place, compressing nerve roots and in many cases also the spinal cord, and result in what is called the prolapse disc.

A prolapse disc can cause a variety of symptoms starting from back pain and tingling numbness to sensory loss and weakness on the arms or legs. The severity of the symptoms depends on the compression that the disc is resulting in. In cases where there is a very small displacement of the disc, back pain and leg tingling might be the only symptoms. However if the disc is centrally prolapsed and is compressing the spinal cord there might be a lot of sensory loss and weakness resulting in a lot of disability.

So now that we understand what a prolapse disc is let us discussed about the treatment of a Slipped Disc. Do we choose physiotherapy over surgery or surgery over physiotherapy in Singapore?

The treatment of choice in a prolapse disc depends on the stage of the spine disorder. Most cases of prolapse disc is treated and cured with conservative treatment, which consists of physiotherapy and medications. Physiotherapy treatment for back slipped disc would consist of pain relief equipment by electrical stimulation, ultrasound and manual therapy, stretching of tight muscles, nerve or joint mobilization, strengthening the back and core muscles, and ergonomic advice. Most cases of prolapse disc resolve completely with physiotherapy and if the patient continues taking precautions, maintains an active lifestyle and a strong core muscles, and makes a few lifestyle modification prolapse disc will not relapse.

However there are cases which will not resolve with physiotherapy and requires surgical intervention. These cases are:

— Severe back pain persisent, even after taking conservative treatment for more than 3 to 6 months.

— Neurological deficit with progressive weakness, constant numbness and tingling on arms or legs

— Increasing back pain in spite of being under physiotherapy treatment.

— Unable to perform simple daily activities such as sleeping, sitting, walking

Neurological deficit or progressive neurological deficit is a red flag and should be attended to immediately. Neurological deficit implies that there is a large compression of the nerve roots or the spinal cord, and this needs immediate decompression.

The decision to go in for a surgery in Singapore is to be considered seriously by the patient as this is an invasive irreversible method and not a 100% cure.

Even post decompression surgery, physiotherapy is of utmost importance to strengthen the core muscles and prevent slipped disc at other levels. Also post operation pain can be reduced by physiotherapy. 3 to 6months of rehabilitation with progressive exercises with physiotherapist ensure that the patient can go back to his daily activities without fearing another episode of prolapse.

Most cases of slipped disc will recovered with physiotherapy in Singapore, surgical intervention option will be considered if failed.
